first body check
height of the front and rear wheels from the floor to the top. the forester sf have automatic mechanical level control (rear axle)
often they were replaced by shock absorbers during maintenance and the forester hangs by the rear
next body check
grandpa washed and polished. but the old foresters are built high with level regulation. always spray in there. also car wax.
since grandpa didn't know that, disassemble your forester and you will probably find this:
you don't see it from the outside. when it's repaired, cut the fairing in three pieces. then you can make inspection easier
